Introducing KaubanCare: A Vision for Transforming Long-Term Care

The global long-term care economy is at a crossroads. With aging populations, increasing demand for quality caregiving, and a dwindling pool of professional caregivers, families and healthcare systems face mounting pressure to provide sustainable, compassionate, and affordable solutions. By 2050, over 16% of the world’s population (1.5 billion) will be 65 and older. The aging of the world’s population combined with urbanization trends (68% by 2050) presents multiple challenges across the global care chain. Additionally, in the emerging markets of Asia and Africa, financial wellness and long-term care of the elderly are the responsibility of individuals and their families with limited public support. At KaubanCare, we recognize these challenges and are committed to reshaping the way we approach long-term care by fostering innovation, empathy, and community-driven global solutions.

The Global Long-Term Care Dilemma

The care economy is under unprecedented strain worldwide. Nearly every country is experiencing growth in its elderly population. As lifespans increase, more individuals require support with daily living, medical assistance, and emotional care. However, families often bear the brunt of this responsibility, sacrificing time, financial resources, and even career opportunities to care for loved ones.

In countries like the Philippines, this issue is exacerbated by the “care drain” phenomenon, where many skilled healthcare workers leave their home country to seek better opportunities abroad. It is estimated that over 51% of licensed nurses have left the country in search of better opportunities. This migration leaves families struggling to find qualified and affordable caregivers locally. Furthermore, the lack of robust care infrastructure, compounded by cultural expectations of family caregiving, creates a cycle of unmet needs and caregiver burnout

Across emerging markets, the elderly population is increasing at an accelerated rate and risks placing further financial strain on individuals, families, communities, and governments. There are nearly 650 million unpaid caregivers worldwide. The value of this unpaid caregiving is estimated at $11 trillion. In countries such as the Philippines, the value of unpaid caregiving is estimated at anywhere between 10% and 39% of the nation’s GDP.

Globally, the lack of accessible, high-quality care services means millions of families face multiple challenges. The result is a care economy in urgent need of transformation—one that prioritizes the dignity of seniors, the sustainability of caregivers, and the empowerment of families.

KaubanCare’s Vision

At KaubanCare, our vision is simple yet profound: to create a world where long-term care is accessible, high-quality, and rooted in community. We aim to bridge the gaps in the global caregiving ecosystem by providing a platform that connects families with skilled, compassionate caregivers, fostering technological innovation. Our strategy closes these gaps by addressing the systemic issues that hinder progress.

Our name, “Kauban,” reflects this vision. In Cebuano, “kauban” means “companion” or “partner,” symbolizing the core of our mission: to build relationships of trust and partnership between caregivers, families, and the elderly. KaubanCare seeks to empower all stakeholders in the caregiving journey—whether through innovative technology, community support, or advocacy for improved care standards.

KaubanCare’s Mission

 Our mission is threefold:

  1. Empowering Caregivers: By providing access to training, globally competitive compensation, and professional growth opportunities, we aim to upskill and uplift caregivers.
  2. Supporting Families: KaubanCare simplifies the process of finding trustworthy and qualified care providers, enabling individuals to focus on their loved ones without the administrative and emotional burdens.
  3. Enhancing Patient Outcomes: At the heart of our mission is the commitment to delivering compassionate, personalized care that prioritizes the dignity and well-being of every individual.
  4. Promoting Senior Lifestyles: Beyond caregiving, KaubanCare is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for seniors by encouraging active, healthy, and fulfilling lifestyles. We advocate for programs and resources that support physical activity, mental stimulation, social connections, and creative engagement, empowering seniors to live their golden years with vibrancy and purpose.

Through these efforts, KaubanCare envisions not just meeting the needs of today’s long-term care challenges but redefining what care can and should be.

Addressing the Systemic Pain Points

KaubanCare’s approach acknowledges the broader pain points in the global care economy:

  • Caregiver Shortages: By supporting caregivers with better working conditions and competitive salaries, we address the factors driving them away from the profession.
  • Accessibility and Affordability: We aim to make care services more accessible by leveraging current and emerging technology and creating scalable solutions that benefit diverse communities.
  • Cultural Barriers: KaubanCare embraces cultural nuances in caregiving, offering tailored solutions that respect familial roles while alleviating the pressures families face.

KaubanCare’s Commitment to Sustainable Development

At KaubanCare, our commitment to creating a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable global caregiving ecosystem aligns closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By addressing systemic challenges in caregiving, we contribute to a broader vision of sustainable development that uplifts individuals, families, and communities. Our platform addresses the following 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

SDG 1: No Poverty

Poverty remains a critical barrier to accessing quality caregiving services. KaubanCare works to address economic inequalities by creating livelihood opportunities for caregivers and reducing financial burdens on families. Through fair compensation, training, and support systems for caregivers, we enable them to achieve financial stability while ensuring families can access affordable care solutions.

SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being

Health and well-being are at the core of KaubanCare’s mission. We prioritize patient-centered care that improves quality of life for the elderly and those with long-term health conditions. By ensuring caregivers are adequately trained in health practices and stress management, we foster both physical and mental well-being for all stakeholders in the caregiving journey.

SDG 5: Gender Equality

Caregiving disproportionately affects women, who often take on these roles without adequate support or recognition. Worldwide, more than 93% of the nearly 650 million unpaid caregivers are women. KaubanCare is committed to gender equality by empowering women caregivers with professional opportunities, fair wages, and access to training. Additionally, we work to challenge societal norms that place the caregiving burden disproportionately on women, fostering shared responsibilities within families.

SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

The global care economy holds immense potential for economic growth if supported effectively.  KaubanCare contributes to SDG 8 by creating decent work opportunities in caregiving, offering career progression pathways, and ensuring ethical treatment of caregivers. By valuing caregiving as a formal profession, we drive both individual empowerment and broader economic development.

SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure

Innovation is a cornerstone of KaubanCare’s approach. Our platform leverages unique technologies to streamline the connection between individuals, families and caregivers, creating a robust infrastructure for long-term care delivery. By adopting data-driven solutions and digital tools, we enhance access, efficiency, and scalability in caregiving, paving the way for a modernized care economy.

SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities

Inequalities in access to care services disproportionately impact vulnerable populations. KaubanCare is committed to reducing these disparities by making caregiving services accessible across socioeconomic and geographic divides. Our focus on affordable care, equitable caregiver support, and culturally sensitive solutions ensures that no one is left behind in the pursuit of quality care.

A Shared Vision for Sustainable Caregiving

KaubanCare’s initiatives are deeply rooted in the principles of sustainable development, addressing the interconnected social, economic, and environmental dimensions of caregiving. By aligning our mission with the SDGs, we aim to create a ripple effect of positive change—uplifting individuals, strengthening communities, and building a resilient care economy for future generations.
